Waldorf education is founded on the principles of child development as described in lectures and books by Rudolf Steiner.  He created the first Waldorf or 'Steiner' school in Europe in 1918, at the request of a business friend, who wished to see an education that would allow children to become adults who could act out of freedom and love in the world. Waldorf education is now the fastest growing private school movement in the world, with hundreds of schools in dozens of countries on all the continents. 

 

Waldorf education recognizes the inherent worth of each human being, respects the individual freedom of each living person, whatever their age, and attempts to meet the developing needs of children at different ages.  Nurturing the imagination and purposefully promoting the preservation of childhood are main goals of Waldorf programs. 

 

 

Children are perceived as a gift to the earth and as whole human beings with temperament, will, personality, and individual capacities.  At Shining Star, we welcome each new person to our program and strive to find a way to meet each child and adult, with warmth and open arms.
