Application For Shining Star School

Completion of an application is needed to place you on a 'consideration' list for the school.   Please realize there in a non refundable application fee of $50 per family.  

Openings for Grades 1-2-3-4-5-6  are available for 2008-2009, some classes have more open spaces than others, 

We would be delighted to receive your application and have you meet with our great teachers and

 see the pretty rooms and meet al the friendly people here!

Please note at this time, there is a Waiting List for our Linden Tree K program and the Mother Earth Kindergarten Program.  We do have limited openings in Moonbeams and Faery Garden Nurseries.

Our School is growing!  Rapidly!  As of April 2008, we enjoy 121 children from preschool to grade five.  As we grow, our application process has also changed and grown!

We are hosting a series of Open Houses this winter and spring, and you can see those dates on the Dates and Events Page on this website.

We do not schedule spontaneous visits to our classes, especially the K classes, as this is quite an intrusion for the ongoing imaginative-play setting that we are carefully nurturing.  We are very protective of our Farm based Mother Earth K and nursery program, as well, please do come to an Open House if you are able.

Or you can call us at 503 753 4459, we will forward a packet of information about the various classes and programs for this year and next fall.  You are welcome to submit the paper application to the school which will generate further response from the teachers and staff.  Your child may be invited to come for an interview with the teacher, or to spend a 3 day visit with the grades class, prior to acceptance.

If the visit and interview are positive, the child may be invited to join the class.  Each child in our school is respected and nurtured by our caring community, and we all want to be sure that the placement is a good fit and that Waldorf educational characteristics are clear and in line with the lifestyle of the families.

Our families and children are wonderful!  We enjoy nature, healthy foods, healthy play and home rhythms, and respect for all others and the earth.  Shining Star Waldorf School is part of a large group of similar schools, located all over the globe, that follow the indications of Rudolf Steiner, philosopher and visionary.

We will open Enrollment to New Families on March 1, 2008 for preschool through grade 6!  Applications rec'd before then will be date stamped and placed on a wait-list in chronological order for the March 1 Opening Date.  Applications must be rec'd with the $50 enrollment family fee AND a non refundable Last Month Deposit (LMD) to qualify for the March 1 Enrollment Process. 

In House Families will be able to re-enroll during the month of February.  After February, the new families will be invited to fill all available spaces in the classes.  Signing up early is a good idea!

Currently our tuition for the Ks is $320, and our grades four-day program is $408 per month.  Nursery fees are range from $280 for three days to $360 for four days or $180 for two days.  We offer a one-day home school Friday program for $350 for 10 weeks. We expect each family to be able to pay at least one full tuition for their family in order to support our teachers at the school.

We do receive many calls or emails of interest from families who currently do not reside in the Portland area....please do request our downloadable Power Point Slide Show and visit us WHEN you arrive in Portland.  We are such a small school with limited office staff and thus we are striving to meet everyone's needs in the most responsive manner.
