A story for young children in a time of loss or death.....a Pedagogically Curative Tale...
Johnny Rabbit felt very happy. He saw the billowy pink cherry trees all above
him, and the robin egg blue skies over the pink, and in the blue, big puffy clouds
sailed by.
Johnny Rabbit smelled the sweet green of the grass. He took a little careful bite. Delicious.
There were small drops of water on the grass blades. Johnny Rabbit liked to
lick them off. Sweet!
Pretty yellow flowers bobbed their heads nearby. Johnny put his little pink nose
deep into a flower. Some yellow flower dust stayed on his little pink nose.
Kerchew! Johnny Rabbit sneezed.
Kerchew, kerchew, kerchew! He sneezed three more times!
Mama came out of her bunny home. She called Johnny over and wiped his face
with her soft white apron. She rubbed his pink ears and cuddled him tight.
Wiggly Johnny Rabbit jumped down and skipped off to play in the sunny day.
All day he played with his friends, the robins, fox cubs, and the frogs. The
sunny time began to fade, and Johnny felt a shiver tickle his hind legs and his
neck. He saw the bright silver stars come out into the dark blue sky, and
a bit of the moon peeked from behind one cloud.
The sun went to bed as Johnny limpety lopped over the grassy hills. Round
the soft curves he went, quicker and quicker as the night fell.
When Johnny came home, his mama fed him a warm dinner and helped him into bed.
He fell asleep to her lullaby, the special song he heard when he was ready for
sleep. He rested his sleepy head on the soft bed and rose up into the night.
He rose up so high! He saw the sparkle of the stars. He felt the silver
shine of the moon on his face. He passed through the puffy clouds and
right into the blue and into the starry golden circles and through and through.
It was warm and he felt as light as air! He was like a feather floating on
the wind. He was so very well indeed.
And he could hear, the lullaby of love, carrying him upwards and onwards and forever.
Dear Johnny Rabbit!
