Summer Programs

Summer Programs 2011

Children ages 4 to 10 years old

June 27 to July 29 (Five weeks of bliss!)  9 am to 12 noon, Intensive Art Camps for Grade 1 to 5, Play Camp for children preschool-kindergarten ages, 9 to 12 noon, then we will offer afternoon option from 12 noon to 3 pm, for play, crafts, water fun, gardening, park outings, and cooking. 

Grades Age Intensive Art Camps--taught by Laura Johnson, MFA, Pratt Insitute, Waldorf HS graduate, guitar player, singer of songs, teller of stories, and artist

$75 per week, Monday-Thursday 9 am to 12 noon

 
JULY 5 ______
 
WEEK TWO:  Theme will be Japanese Myths, we will enjoy painting in a variety of mediums on projects drawn from the stories, including a bamboo windchime, a large paper lamp, on rice paper, and wet on wet exercises from the Waldorf world. 
 
JULY 11 ______
 
WEEK THREE: Puppet Theater Camp:  we will concentrate on the story of Salmon Boy to create gorgeous rod and stick puppets from a combination of materials, the children will create their own stories and produce a small theater production at the end of the week.

WEEK FOUR:  Enter the Fairy Tale Kingdom to discover the fun and beauty of exploring the archetypes with our art work:  Royals, Youngsters, Magical Beings such as Fairies, Gnomes, Dragons, and others....we will use drawing, collage, craft (bead fairies) and much more to bring these images to life.

WEEK FIVE:  Multi Media, we will focus on some of the Legends from South America's ancient people to explore symbols and create hand made garden stepping stones in cement, make our own symbols to press in a printing process, and roast ears of corn to celebrate the Archetypal Maize divine figures we will create with natural materials to ensure fine crops. 
 
Young Child Camp$75 per week, Monday-Thursday 9-12 noon
Teacher:  Mrs. Marsha Johnson, Waldorf teacher, extensive art and teaching experience, storyteller, mama, and playmate for your precious child....

July 5th (four day week) Water camp, enjoy creating our own water play craft with small wooden boats and sails, using water to make our own bubble mix with magic wands

July 20th:  Handwork camp, enjoy the Arts of Handwork, wet felting, hand sewing, projects that are fun for small hands to complete and enjoy

July 27th: Theater camp, enjoy the thespian arts for the young child with playing with story, fairy tales, acting out the scenes, having face paint and making simple props.  For the young child, play acting is an everyday event, Theater camp is pure fun!

AFTERNOON CAMP:  12 noon to 3 pm

Enjoy lunch, play time, afternoon craft and games, field trips down to Two Plum Park, active play and resting time.  We will plant and harvest garden produce, cook snacks and special foods like home made salsa for an afternoon treat, and relax into the summer afternoon mode. 

Afternoon camp is available for children ages 3 to 10, and is open all five weeks of the summer camps (above).  Space is limited to 10 children and sibling discount is available.

$75 per child per week for four days.  Siblings, $60 per week for four days.
